Being Real in Relationships
Creativity has a role in your relationships
Have you noticed how we expect
a relationship to be a certain way?
Most of the time, we aren’t even aware
of those expectations because
we take them as obvious,
we view them as givens.
I noticed this recently
as I was having some friendship issues.
And I thought —
Could it be freeing for ourselves
and our relationships
to take a moment to notice that.
And to open up some wiggle room,
some breathing room in a relationship
For other possibilities. Other than our expectations.
Some of us can, at times,
Feel alone in a relationship.
Maybe we don’t show it,
But we are having a hard time.
We may be asking ourselves:
“What does friendship/other relationship mean?”
Switching our perspective
Can help.
What I mean is,
Rethinking:
- What it is that we actually want or need from a relationship.
- Is that realistic?
- What is it that we expect from our “ friends” / other relationship experiences?
- Which expectations will it feel good to let go of, to make room for relationships to breathe, and enjoy without depending on them emotionally to feel ok?
- What is it that we can actually give to ourselves to feel ok that friends or family can not give us?
Our creativity IS often that ability
to independently feel and be ok.
It is that power in you, that doesn’t need others
in order to feel safe.
Even if it’s fleeting, it’s there.
Can you recognize it or imagine what it could feel like?
Write it down, Before you forget the feeling.
Creativity can easily flow when you are connected
to knowing that
you are more than ok, 120% approved.
This is non-negotiable.
Even if you’re disappointing someone,
or they think you’re wrong,
they think there’s a real problem.
(That someone can be a voice in your head
or another person).
You need to be free and feel safe,
More than anything else.
No matter what.
What could support you in feeling safe?
You creating that for yourself,
It is the ultimate creativity.
You create your own well-being,
You depend on nothing and no one.
