Fear & Creativity
How To Feel Safety & Wellness
Do you ever feel shaken up by life circumstances?
Thrown into fear? Feel too vulnerable?
(Or pain, sadness, anger, or other uncomfortable feelings)
Last week was hard.
A few things happened that threw me off,
Threw me into fearful thinking.
And here’s what i came to see at the end of this week:
When you feel lost in fearful thinking,
Loosen up your grip on the thought content,
I know that may sound really weird,
But if you pay attention, you’ll see
that the content of thought shifts and changes with no logic
(“you should be better at x”, “why aren’t you doing y”).
Loosen up your grip on the thought content,
Only as much as you can,
You won’t be able to find relief in thought.
Let thought do what it will, and –
Do whatever you need to do
To comfort yourself.
Here are examples:
Turn your attention to the body –
Feel your feet on the ground, feel the ground holding you up.
Feel the things around you that support you right now.
(Example: the food you can buy in the supermarket)
And as your thoughts are chatting about scary “what ifs”, let them.
Turn their volume down a bit, and ask yourself:
“Does it make sense for me to feel safe, here, now?
Am I ok at this moment?”
Feel safe, even if only for a few seconds.
You’re allowed to feel that.
In and out of fear. It’s good.
Choosing to use your mind this way,
You take responsibility for your own wellness.
And when you’re well, you have more to give others.
Choosing to use your mind this way,
You connect you with your warm and zealous undercurrent of –
Your true strength,
Your clarity,
Your creativity.
You get to create a space of
softness, safety, and non-judgment
For yourself
And others.
To feel relief.
There’s nothing wrong with feeling
fear or sadness or anger, shame,
Or other uncomfortable feelings.
We can’t control
the thoughts,
the feelings,
The circumstances,
Or other people.
And we’re not pushing them away,
but –
We can comfort ourselves.
